💰 NovaCloud VM Expense Optimization FAQ
What should I do to save the expense if I’m not using the VM in NovaCloud?
If you’re not actively using your VM in NovaCloud, the best way to reduce your charges is to stop the instance. This action suspends compute billing (CPU & RAM), which helps you save significantly.
However, stopping the VM does not stop all charges — storage (volume) charges will still apply because your data is preserved on the attached virtual disk.
✅ Summary of What You Can Do:
Action | Saves on CPU/RAM Billing | Saves on Storage Billing | Risk |
---|---|---|---|
Stop the VM | ✅ Yes | ❌ No | No data loss |
Delete the VM but keep the volume | ✅ Yes | ❌ No | Data intact, but still charged for volume |
Delete both VM and volume | ✅ Yes | ✅ Yes | ⚠️ All data will be lost permanently |
⚠️ Important Note: If you want to save all expenses, you must delete both the instance and the attached volume — but make sure you back up any important data first.
Tip: Archive Instead of Run
If you plan to use the server again later, stopping the VM and keeping the volume is a cost-effective way to pause services while preserving your setup and files.
