This guideline elaborate the step by step on how to install the WebsitePanel which is the web server management panel for the Window Server and it is free.

Before starting, please install the following:

a) SQLExpress. Refer to this link to download the .exe file and this link for a guide on how to install.

b) Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5, link

 

Steps:

1. Using Remote Desktop (run->mstsc), connect to your Windows Server.

2. Download the .exe installation file from http://www.websitepanel.net/downloads/ . You will need to register an account first before able to download.

Choose the latest stable release (2.1 at the time of writing) and click on”Website Panel Installer” to start the download.

3. Once download is complete, run the downloaded file “WebsitePanelSetup-2.1.0”. Click “Next”.

4. It will check the prerequisites of your system. Click “Next” 2 times to install the missing components.

5. Click “Next” again to install Portal into default directory.

6. Here you can set the IP address and Host name used for accessing WebsitePanel Server. It is possible to leave the host name blank. After filling in the details, click “Next” to continue.

7. Here you can create a new user account used for accessing the website. Uncheck the “Create Active directory account” checkbox.

Make sure the password that you use is strong enough, otherwise the installation process will fail at the end. Click “Next” after complete.

8. Set a password for accessing the server. Type in your password and click “Next” to continue.

9. Here you can set the IP address and Host name used for accessing WebsitePanel Enterprise Server. It is possible to leave the host name blank. After filling in the details, click “Next” to continue.

10. Here you can create a new user account used for accessing the website on Enterprise Server. Uncheck the “Create Active directory account” check box.

Make sure the password that you use is strong enough, otherwise the installation process will fail at the end. Click “Next” after complete.

12. Press “Test Connection” to connect to SQLExpress. If the “Success” message box pops up, click “Next” to continue

P.S. If an error message pops up about “NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM”, open Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio and login using Windows Authentication.

Expand /Security/Logins in Object Explorer on the left of the program. Double click on “NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM”, in the open dialogue box click on “Server Roles” and check the box “sysadmin”. “Test Connection” should work now.

13. Here you can create a new user account used for accessing the portal for WebsitePanel. It is possible to leave the host name blank. Click “Next” after complete.

14. Set a password for accessing the portal. Uncheck the “Create Active directory account” checkbox. Type in your password and click “Next” to continue.

16. Type the IP and Port Number you have set for Portal (default 127.0.0.1:9001) into your browser’s URL. If successful you should get the page in the picture below.

Leave the username as “serveradmin” and key in the password you have set for accessing the portal. Click “Sign In”.

17.  Congratulations, you have successfully installed and access your Website Control Panel. Below is what your WebsitePanel should look like by default.
