How to suspend a user account in WHM

Last updated on |

Introduction

The Suspend Account feature in WHM allows administrators to temporarily disable a cPanel account without deleting it. This is useful for enforcing payment policies, preventing misuse, or pausing services while troubleshooting. When an account is suspended, its website becomes inaccessible, and the user cannot log in to cPanel or access related services.

Prerequisites

  • Root or administrative access to WHM

  • The username or primary domain of the account you want to suspend

  • Basic familiarity with WHM’s interface

Steps to Suspend a User Account in WHM

Step 1: Log in to WHM

  1. Open your browser and navigate to your WHM login page (e.g., https://your-server-ip:2087).
  2. Enter your root or reseller credentials and click Login.

Step 2: Access the Suspend Account Feature

From the WHM sidebar:

  • Go to Home

  • Navigate to Account Functions

  • Click Manage Account Suspension under Account function

Step 3: Select the Account

  • In the account list, locate the account by username or primary domain

  • Select the account you want to suspend and click continue.

Step 4: Provide Suspension Reason (Optional)

  • In the Reason (if any) field, enter a note explaining why the account is being suspended

  • This message will appear to the user if they try to access the suspended site

  • Click suspend to confirm

Conclusion

Suspending an account in WHM is a quick way to restrict access without deleting data. This ensures that the account can be restored easily when needed. If the account should be reactivated later, you can use the Unsuspend option in the same interface.
