by

Introduction

System messages in DirectAdmin accumulate over time as notifications about account activities and system events are generated, but manual message management can become time-consuming. Configuring automatic deletion rules based on message age helps maintain an organized inbox by removing outdated notifications without manual intervention. DirectAdmin’s Message System interface provides a straightforward method for setting retention policies that automatically clear old messages. This guide explains how to configure automatic message deletion using the Message System section in DirectAdmin, enabling hands-free management of notification history and preventing message inbox clutter.

Prerequisites

  • Access to DirectAdmin control panel with the necessary permissions.

Step-by-step Guide

Step 1: Access DirectAdmin

Log in to your DirectAdmin control panel.

Step 2: Access System Messages

On the top right, click on Message System.

Step 3: Set Automatic Deletion Rules

Locate the field for Automatically delete messages older than 0  days under the Messages table. Enter the number of days you wish to keep messages. Messages older than this value will be automatically deleted.

Then, click Save below it.

Tips: Setting the value to 0 means the system will never automatically delete messages.

The system will now automatically check and delete system messages that exceed the specified age on a scheduled basis.

Conclusion

Setting automatic deletion rules through DirectAdmin’s Message System interface is a simple process that maintains an organized notification inbox without manual effort. Configuring age-based retention policies ensures outdated messages are automatically removed while keeping recent notifications accessible, with flexible settings to match your message management preferences.
