How ownership transfer for DNS works?
DNS ownership transfer is only applicable if your domain is managed under IP ServerOne and you have an active DNS Hosting subscription with us. The process can be done either via the Customer Portal or manually with our assistance. Each method has specific requirements to avoid service interruption.
1. Ownership Transfer via Customer Portal (Recommended)
If you are transferring ownership through the Customer Portal:
-
Make sure the new owner has sufficient Cloud Points in their account before starting the transfer.
-
Once the domain is transferred, the DNS hosting will be migrated to the new owner’s account. However, if the account does not have enough credit:
-
The DNS hosting may not be activated.
-
The DNS service may be automatically suspended, which can lead to interruption of any services linked to the domain, such as websites or email.
-
To ensure a smooth transition, it is important that the new owner tops up their Cloud Points beforehand.
2. Ownership Transfer via Manual Request
If you require a manual transfer, IP ServerOne can assist. However, we strongly recommend using the Customer Portal to ensure that all data and services are migrated properly.
In the case of a manual transfer:
-
The new owner must have Cloud Points in their account before the transfer is initiated.
-
If there is insufficient credit, DNS hosting may be disrupted, potentially causing downtime to any services associated with the domain.
Manual transfers may not ensure a complete migration of services and settings, so using the Customer Portal is the preferred option for reliability and convenience.
