Can I change the IP address of my nameserver?
It depends on the type of nameserver you are using:
-
Custom / Child Nameservers (Glue Records)
-
Example: ns1.yourdomain.com → points to an IP address
-
Yes. If your nameserver is registered under your own domain, the registrar can update the IP address (glue record) for you. This is necessary if your server’s IP has changed.
-
-
Third-Party Provider Nameservers
-
Example: ns1.cloudflare.com, ns1.google.com, etc.
-
No. The IP addresses for these nameservers are managed by the provider (e.g., Cloudflare, Google). As the registrar, we cannot change the IP behind them. You may only update which nameservers your domain points to.
-
Summary:
-
If the nameserver is yours (under your domain), we can update the IP address for you.
-
If the nameserver belongs to a provider, only the provider controls its IP.
