Follow these steps if you need to extract detailed email metadata.

  • Access to Webmail or the web client you’re using.
  • An email account with emails that require header viewing.
  • Basic familiarity with navigating Webmail interfaces.

 

Step-by-Step Guide

The following steps provide instructions for viewing email headers in three different interfaces:

  • Outlook Web Client
  • Webmail/Squirrelmail
  • Apple Mail

Each section below offers specific guidance on how to access and view email headers, which can be useful for troubleshooting or identifying spam emails.

  1. First, login to your email account.
  2. Choose the email which you want to view the header.
  3. After you choose the email you wanted to view the header on the right side “Three Dot“.
  4. Choose the option “view” and got to “message source“.
  5. Below is the email header.

 

Webmail/Squirrelmail

  1. First, go to webmail or Roundcube account.
  2. Choose the email which you want to view the email header, click at “More” button then click “Show source”. After you click on “Show source” you will see the full email header of that particular email.


 

Applemail

  1. Open Apple Mail, then double-click on the message to open it.
  2. From that opened message window, go to View menu, select Message and choose All Headers:
  3. Now, you will see the full email header for the email.

 

 

Gmail (Google Mail)

If you’re using Gmail, follow the steps below to view the full email headers and download the original email in .eml format:

  1. Open your Gmail inbox and click on the email you want to investigate.

  2. Click the three vertical dots (More) at the top-right corner of the email, next to the Reply button.

  3. Select “Show original” from the dropdown menu.

  4. A new tab will open showing the full email headers and raw message content.

  5. To download the email, click on “Download Original” — this will save the email as a .eml file to your computer.

  6. Alternatively, you can click “Copy to clipboard” to copy the entire content and paste it into a text editor (e.g., Notepad).

You can then send the .eml file to us (support@ipserverone.com) for further analysis.

 

Additional Step – How to Save and Send the .eml File to Our Support Team

If our support team requests a copy of the full email, we’ll need the original message in .eml format. This allows us to analyze the full email headers and content accurately.

Option 1: Download the .eml File (Recommended)

In Roundcube (Webmail):

  1. Open the email you want to send.
  2. Click the “More” button (usually represented by three dots).
  3. Select “Download (.eml)” or “Download Original”.
  4. Save the file to your computer — for example, your Desktop.

In Other Web Clients:

  1. Open the full email.
  2. Look for an option like “Download Original”, “Show Raw Message”, or “View Source”.
  3. Right-click and choose Save As, or copy the entire content.

 

Option 2: Copy and Paste into Notepad (If No Download Option)

  1. Open the email’s original source or raw message view (this includes headers).
  2. Select all the content and copy it ( Ctrl + ACtrl + C).
  3. Open Notepad.
  4. Paste the content (Ctrl + C) and go to File > Save As.
  5. Name the file something like email.eml, and set Save as type to All Files.
  6. Save the file to your Desktop.
